Disclosure: I received SpinMaster games from Tryazon in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. I may collect a share of sales from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them.
Because the weather was nice, I thought it would be fun
to hang out with my parents & friends playing board games in a local park.
I decided to divide us into kids vs. parents teams to go along with the theme
of one of the five games I brought to review. It is called: Beat the Parents.
We began
our board game day by playing Beat the Parents. If you are good at trivia, then
you will probably enjoy this game. However, I found some of the questions were
asked in a confusing manner. I thought the kids cards were mostly based on
educational subjects taught in school such as science. On the other hand, the
parents cards were mainly TV trivia questions. The most high stakes questions portion
of the game was when players landed on a challenge. For example, I successfully
removed a card from beneath the timer without it tipping over.
The second
game is called Hedbanz Blast Off. We probably spent the most amount of time
playing this game. It is familiar and easy to play because it is a guessing
game. Although it is nerve racking & scary because it involves a timer
& a card that you must wear on your head. It requires players to thread the
timer through the headband and then place a card into the timer. I noticed that
a large portion of the cards were sports equipment related, as I often found
myself asking, am I a ball? I appreciated that there were pre-written questions
provided, in case you couldn't quickly think of
one of your own, under the timer constraints.
Jumanji
Deluxe is the name of the third game we played. If you are a fan of the
original movie, then it is probably what you would expect the board game
version to be like in real life. The electronic green dome is really cool! When
you press it, that is where your questions & answers appear. I did find it
odd that the answer was darkness three times, when there are so many more possibilities.
Also, the soundtrack was super loud with no way to adjust the volume, so
elephant noises & jungle drums filled the air which hopefully was not too
disturbing to fellow park goers. Since it is a cooperative vs competitive game,
it makes it a great game to play with your entire family.
The fourth
game, Harry Potter Catch the Golden Snitch, is the most difficult game to
figure out how to play in my experience. In fact, I'm not sure we were playing
it correctly. I think it is supposed to mimic the chaos of how Quidditch is
played, but the snitch is much easier to catch. Even though I had trouble
trying to figure out my first time playing, I was really excited to try it out
with my friends and family as I am a big Harry Potter fan. Thus, I would give
it another chance just because I like anything Harry Potter themed.
Netflix Trending
Now is the fifth & final game we played at the park. It is sort of similar
to Apples to Apples, which is one of my favorite games to play with a group. If
you are familiar with Netflix shows, then this game would also be fun. Since we
did not have a lot of time left to spend outdoors as I had pre-ordered a delicious
yuzu flavored kakigori at a nearby restaurant, it was the perfect game to end
our parent vs kid game at the park day before dinnertime, as it was a quick
game to play.
